1982 Leacock Medal - Gophers don't pay Taxes - M.J. Huston

"Digging through personal effects after the deaths of my parents in 2005, I discovered an envelope filled with letters, legal documents, report cards, and a photo-copied excerpt from a book."

The words on those tattered pages came from the 1982 Leacock Medal winner Gophers Don’t Pay Taxes by Mervyn J. Huston.

My father, who spent his Harvest Excursion youth on the prairies, clearly liked to read and re-read the Gophers stories which celebrated Blossum, an imaginary town on the Alberta-Saskatchewan border.
